Shipwreck | Gallatin National Forest, Montana | December 2016
As I drove along US 287, the morning light was really beautiful, especially since the clouds were constantly moving and changing the light. As I neared Boat Mountain, I thought to myself that some open water would make a nice foreground with the mountain behind. So I pulled into a pullout near Beaver Creek and sure enough, there was just enough open water to get me out of my car. But as I approached the water's edge, it wasn't the water that drew me in as a foreground but the ice formations on the edge of the water. So I got down onto my stomach and began framing photos with this one being the one I preferred. Minus 10° F morning but it had warmed up to about minus 1°F when I took the photo.
