A thermal feature in Yellowstone National Park? Nope, that's Lake Josephine viewed from the Grinnell Glacier Trail in Glacier National Park! Glacial lakes take on incredible colors when the sun is out and there's no breeze. The milky blue color comes from the runoff of the glaciers high above while the colors on the edge are made up from the different minerals in the earth. To top it off, the willows make wonderful habitat for moose and other wildlife. It's no wonder Glacier National Park has been the setting for heaven in several movies! The photo was taken from the Grinnell Glacier Trail as it winds up the mountainside above Lake Josephine, using a telephoto zoom lens so I could frame this composition.
