Coyotes have been known as "song dogs" because of their varying vocalizations. They don't have the long, mournful howl of a wolf but instead have different vocalizations such as short howls and yips. Above, a coyote howls to two others nearby who responded quickly. The three met up and travelled off together. Below, a coyote pup steps out of it's den on a cool spring morning and practices it's howling skills.
